High-level groupings (for example statins or ACE inhibitors) help you explore related medicines. Your GP may advise which class is suitable for you.
- Statins
Statins are a group of medicines that help lower cholesterol. They are commonly prescribed when diet and lifestyle changes alone are not enough. Your GP or pharmacist can explain whether a statin is appropriate for you.
- ACE inhibitors
ACE inhibitors are often used to treat high blood pressure and some heart conditions. They work by relaxing blood vessels. Your prescriber will choose the right medicine and dose for your situation.
- Diabetes medicines
Several types of medicine can help manage blood glucose in type 2 diabetes. Treatment is individual; your healthcare team will discuss options, monitoring, and lifestyle support.
- Proton pump inhibitors
PPIs reduce stomach acid and may be prescribed for acid reflux, ulcers, or other conditions. Duration of treatment varies; your prescriber may review use regularly.
- Asthma and COPD inhalers
Reliever and preventer inhalers play different roles in asthma and some lung conditions. Technique and follow-up with your clinician are important for safe use.
- Antibiotics (selected)
Antibiotics treat bacterial infections. They are not used for viral illnesses. Always complete the course as directed unless your prescriber advises otherwise.
